Digitization on Demand Station

Gather your analog slides, photos, and films, and convert them into digital versions using our new Digitization on Demand Station in the Community Computing Centre.

Book online or drop into the CCC desk to use the station if it isn’t reserved.

In the Station

Our Digitization on Demand station is on the Lower Level (LL) to the left of the photocopier. It is for patrons using the digitization equipment only. No food or drink is allowed at the station. 

At the Digitization on Demand Station, you can digitize:

  • Super 8 reel-to-reel film  
  • 8mm reel-to-reel film  
  • VHS tapes (NTSC / Region 1)  
  • DVDs (can also be done on CCC computers)  
  • MiniDV tapes 
  • Audio CDs (can also be done on CCC computers) 
  • Cassette tapes 
  • Photos 
  • Slides 
  • Photo Negatives
     

The standard set up of the station includes: 

  • A PC with digitization software 
  • A keyboard 
  • A mouse 
  • A high-quality scanner 
  • A User Guide for instruction and support

     

     

Please note that support during your session is limited and staff can only answer basic questions.  If you need further help, please refer to our User Guide. 

Equipment to borrow

You can borrow the following items for use at the station:

  • Wolverine 8mm and Super 8 Moviemaker Pro 
  • Wolverine Accessories 
  • Phillips DVD Recorder/VCR 
  • Sony Video Cassette Recorder  
  • Canon ZR65 Camcorder 
  • Elgato 
  • ION Tape Express 
  • Epson Perfection V800 Slide Holder 
  • Epson Perfection V800 Film Holder (Medium Format) 
  • Epson Perfection V800 Film Holder (35mm Film Strips) 
  • Epson Accessories 
  • SD Card Reader with SD Card 
  • Gloves 
  • Headphones 
Caring for the equipment
  • When using the equipment, please be gentle and please only digitize one material type at a time. 
  • If the equipment appears to be damaged, please let staff know immediately.  
  • Only use the material provided in the kit to clean the equipment. Do not use liquid cleaning solutions (including antibacterial gel) or outside material.  
  • When working with fragile equipment, please be gentle and use gloves. Gloves can be borrowed at the CCC desk.
Returning equipment
  • Please ensure that cables are wrapped properly. 
  • Please ensure all the items are accounted for.  
  • Repack the kit exactly as you found it and check that you have removed your material from the device. 
  • In-person check-in of equipment is required. Please do not drop equipment off at the desk and leave.

Booking the Station

You can book the station for up to four hours per day.  Bookings can be made up to 30 days in advance.  Drop-ins are also welcome when the space isn’t reserved—check in at the CCC desk when you arrive. 

For your visit, you’ll need to bring: 

  • Your WVML card in good standing (not expired and with less than $20 in fines) to borrow equipment
  • The material you’d like to digitize 
  • A USB, external storage device, or cloud login information (to store your work) 

Please note: Library computers shut down 15 minutes before closing time each day.
