Who We Are
Did you know a library card can help take your business to the next level? West Vancouver business owners get full access to the Library’s suite of online resources, including courses on business, creative, and technology skills on LinkedIn Learning.
Foundation Members
Library Foundation Directors play an important role in supporting the Library through fundraising and community engagement, helping expand access to programs, collections, and welcoming spaces for everyone.
The West Vancouver Memorial Library Foundation was incorporated in 1986 by a group of committed citizens to serve as an avenue through which private and public donors could partner in a legacy of giving and support for the West Vancouver Memorial Library.
As an incorporated, not-for-profit society, the Foundation raises funds and administers endowments, donations, and bequests for the Library. The Foundation annually grants funds to the Library that are used to provide enhancements to spaces, collections, and programs that go further than could be achieved through District funding alone. These enhancements contribute to West Vancouver Memorial Library’s reputation for innovation and excellence.
Philosophy
The West Vancouver Memorial Library Foundation believes that great libraries help build great communities. The Foundation works to provide funds for projects identified by the Library as having high value to the community, and requiring additional or full support. The donations that fund these projects in turn contribute to ensuring everyone in our diverse community has the opportunity to achieve their highest potential by having access to the best, most forward-thinking public library service possible.
Governance
A dedicated and hardworking volunteer Board of Directors govern the Foundation. Directors are elected at the Annual General Meeting by the Foundation Members (West Vancouver Memorial Library Board Trustees with the exception of the West Vancouver Municipal Council representative), for a term of two years. Similarly, the Members appoint the Chair of the Foundation. The other Officers of the Foundation are appointed from the Directors by the Foundation itself.
The two primary responsibilities of the Directors are fundraising and stewardship of the Foundation’s assets. The Foundation operates in close cooperation with the Library staff and Library Board.
