WVML Celebrates Earth Month

Attend programs, read, and discover resources this April

West Vancouver, B.C.—April is Earth Month and WVML has a lot going on for you to increase your knowledge!

Check out some of our recommended resources: Climate Future, Environment & Sustainability, Extreme Heat, Wildfire Smoke, and Sea Level Rise. Curated by librarians, these resources include vetted weblinks, suggested reading lists, upcoming events, and more.

Visit Swáy̓wi Temíxw, our Community Demonstration Garden! You can explore native plants, visit mason bees, attending gardening programs, or just enjoy a book in the fresh air under a shade umbrella. The garden opens for the season in mid-May.

Take part in an event for adults:

  • Dialogues: Past the Tipping Point – Wednesday, April 8, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Listen to Nature: Sound Walk – Tuesday, April 14, 2:30 – 3:30 p.m.
  • Raven or Crow? Who’s Who? With June Hunter – Saturday, April 18, 2 – 3:30 p.m.
  • Can We Prevent Wildfires? A Climate Café with Ocean Ambassadors – Tuesday, April 21, 1 – 2:30 p.m.
  • Emergency Preparedness 101 – Gleneagles Community Centre, Saturday, April 25, 2 – 3:30 p.m.

Take part in an event for children and families:

  • Family Art: Make a Bird Feeder | Ages 4+ with caregiver – Thursday, April 9, 6 – 7 p.m.
  • Family Art: Flower Printing | Ages 4+ with caregiver – Thursday, April 16, 6 – 7 p.m.
  • Listen to Nature: Family Sound Walk | Ages 5+ with caregiver – Saturday, April 18, 11:30 a.m.  – 12:45 p.m.
  • Adopt-A-Fish: Salmon Release and Storytime – Saturday, April 25, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Or, borrow an Explorer Backpack. With multiple categories to choose from, these grab-and-go backpacks include activity suggestions, tips, books, and specialty items compiled for a family expedition in your backyard and community.

Finally, find your next great read in a booklist created by our librarians. Check out Climate Future Recommended Reading, Cli-Fi, and Gardening for Kids to get started!
