UPLIFTING – GARDEN #2
Join us on Swáy̓wi Temíxw, West Vancouver Memorial Library’s Community Demonstration Garden, to enjoy the sights and sounds of local artists and musicians: Violet Finvers, Denny Provost, Dia, and Norine Braun.
About Art in the Garden
This annual community event brings visual artists, musicians, performers, and workshops to outdoor spaces across the North Shore. Through play, creativity, learning, and engagement, the event invites the community to reflect on their relationship to the land and place and hopes to inspire us to care for the natural world and all those sharing the land with us.
Violet Finver’s kiln-formed glass is colourfully contemporary and highly influenced by her graphic design sensibility. Her love of gardening and the desire to create unique glass pieces for her own garden has led her to develop a diverse selection of sculptural items, sure to stand out in any garden.
Denny Provost is a muralist and painter who creates bold and colourful works on canvas. Now a full-time studio artist, Denny also works as an Artist in the Schools with the Nanaimo Art Gallery, a dynamic art education program that brings professional artists into the classroom.
Dia is an all-woman vocal performance trio that sings songs of hope, empowerment and resistance for a changing world. Rose, Sabrielle and Heather first came together in 2017, and have wowed audiences with their original arrangements, soulful voices and beautiful harmonies ever since. Dia’s music is a blend of folk and pop, heavily influenced by artists such as Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlisle, Sara Bareilles, Wailin’ Jenny’s and the Wyrd Sisters. They aim to empower people with their music and messages, and lift the voices of women and queer femme songwriters and artists.
Performance times:
Saturday, May 25, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Sunday, May 26, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Norine Braun is a Vancouver singer-songwriter and recording artist with a prolific career spanning 14 albums. Her music explores themes of identity, heritage, and the universal journey of self-discovery. The soon-to-be-released album “Journey Toward Wholeness” explores Braun’s journey as an adoptee and her recent connection with her Metis heritage. Alice Fraser will also perform on keys and vocals.
Performance times:
Saturday, May 25, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Sunday, May 26, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
