MEZZANINE ( NON-FICTION AREA) CLOSURE The Mezzanine will reopen this summer! Check back to this page for updates as we work on returning collections back to their homes.

Renovations

The Mezzanine (non-fiction area) is closed for a renovation to both seismically upgrade this floor and better serve the needs of our community. The Mezzanine will reopen this summer.

What to expect

There have been lots of changes around the Library in preparation for the Mezzanine closure and renovation. Our goal is to avoid as much disruption as possible. We have strategically moved collections and prioritized the availability of high-demand materials on the shelves while the Mezzanine is closed.

Here’s where to find these collections:

Or, ask at the Help Desk!

To access Main Floor collections during this time:

  • Check our online catalogue or visit the Help Desk for the up-to-date location of items
  • Place holds on items in long-term storage by logging into your account or visiting the Help Desk
  • Anticipate longer wait times (~48 hours) for holds

FAQs

Why we’re renovating

This necessary seismic upgrade will extend the life of this floor while avoiding the costs of new construction. We will also reuse and repurpose existing shelving and furnishings throughout the renovation to save on costs and reduce our environmental impact.

Find more answers to your questions below.

Which collections will be impacted?

A number of collections will be impacted during this project.

Lower-use fiction and non-fiction books have moved to long-term storage (accessible by placing a hold).

Biographies, Literature books, and Graphic Novels moved to the Fiction area. Travel books were relocated to the West Wing, which already houses some other non-fiction collections.

CDs have moved to the Community Computing Centre on the Lower Level.

For how long will the Mezzanine be closed?

The Mezzanine closed on Wednesday, October 16. We anticipate that construction will be completed in mid-2025. After construction is completed we will move collections back to the Mezzanine before reopening it this summer.

How will I be able to access books?
  • Check our online catalogue or visit the Help Desk for the up-to-date location of items
  • Place holds on items in long-term storage by logging into your account or visiting the Help Desk
  • Anticipate longer wait times (~48 hours) for holds
What will happen to the study carrels and seating in the Mezzanine?

The study carrels have been relocated to the Peters Reading Room and tables/chairs to the Main Hall while the Mezzanine is closed. Other collaborative and solo study spaces are available in the Community Computing Centre on the Lower Level and in the East and West Wings on the Main Floor.

Where is the money for this renovation coming from?

This project is funded through the multi-year capital renewal budget from the District of West Vancouver.
