Khan Academy
With a library of over 4,200 high quality short videos on everything from arithmetic to physics, finance, and history and hundreds of skills to practice, they are on a mission to help you learn what you want, when you want, at your own pace. Created by Salman Khan who began posting math tutorials on YouTube, it’s a fantastic way for high school and university students to get help with difficult concepts.
Udacity
Another Stanford initiative, Udacity is funded by Google and other tech firms and is chiefly technology oriented. Course materials are available to anyone, but to enrol in the full course experience, there is a monthly fee (approximately $200/month on average). “Nanodegrees” in specific areas are granted to those who enrol and pass the necessary courses.
EdX
The first MOOC – an MIT course in electrical engineering – led to the creation of edX, a partnership between MIT, Harvard, Berkeley and University of Texas. McGill University, the University of Toronto and others have since joined, offering courses “designed to be interesting, fun and rigorous.”
Coursera
Coursera has over 33 international partners and courses that span the humanities, medicine, biology, social sciences, mathematics, business and computer science.
