CBC Sports: Olympics

Full coverage of Sochi 2014 by CBC Sports, including up-to-the-minute results, schedules, news, videos and photos. CBC/Radio-Canada is Canada’s official broadcaster of the Olympic Games.

Microfilm

Come in to view birth, marriage and death registrations as well as the following historical newspapers on microfilm: Citizen, Express, Lions Gate Times, North Shore Press, North Shore Press Review, North Shore Review, North Shore Times, North Vancouver District News, Sunday News, Times, and West Vancouver News.

We also have microfilm of the North Shore News (1976 onwards), Province (1960-1988), and Vancouver Sun (1971 onwards).

TEDx Events

TED (Technolgy, Entertainment, Design) offers “1500+ talks to stir your curiosity.” Wondering where to start?

Khan Academy

With a library of over 4,200 high quality short videos on everything from arithmetic to physics, finance, and history and hundreds of skills to practice, they are on a mission to help you learn what you want, when you want, at your own pace. Created by Salman Khan who began posting math tutorials on YouTube, it’s a fantastic way for high school and university students to get help with difficult concepts.  

Udacity

Another Stanford initiative, Udacity is funded by Google and other tech firms and is chiefly technology oriented. Course materials are available to anyone, but to enrol in the full course experience, there is a monthly fee (approximately $200/month on average). “Nanodegrees” in specific areas are granted to those who enrol and pass the necessary courses.

EdX

The first MOOC –  an MIT course in electrical engineering – led to the creation of edX, a partnership between MIT, Harvard, Berkeley and University of Texas. McGill University, the University of Toronto and others have since joined, offering courses “designed to be interesting, fun and rigorous.” 

Coursera

Coursera has over 33 international partners and courses that span the humanities, medicine, biology, social sciences, mathematics, business and computer science.

The Joan Ganz Cooney Center

The Cooney Center is an independent research organization that specializes in advancing children’s learning through digital media. The information is highly-accessible and the site covers a wide range of topics from early learning and technology , to apps, to learning through digital play.
