Have you ever wondered how to safely and effectively wash mason bee cocoons to ready your hibernating bees for the coming spring?
Join the Library’s resident mason bee expert, Taren Urquhart, for a 90-minute hands-on lecture on safely removing, washing, and storing cocoons. We will also identify different pests that prey upon hibernating bees throughout the year and learn how to deter them.
This program is intended for participants of the 2023 Mason Bee House Lending programs (and previous years) and for an adult audience. Participants are encouraged to bring the Library mason bee houses lent to them back in February, and as a group, we will clean bee cocoons together. Expect to get dirty and find some interesting insects hibernating in your bee house. All equipment will be provided. Please dress appropriately.
Community members who have bee houses to clean but are not participating in the Library’s Mason Bee House Lending program are still encouraged to attend this workshop. Please email Taren Urquhart at turquhart@westvanlibrary.ca to enquire about registration.
