In the Gallery: Bald Eagles of West Vancouver
Friday, February 23–Thursday, April 11
Bald Eagles are one of the most easily recognizable raptors seen along the West Coast. Their distinctive white heads and tails, powerful beaks, and sharp talons make them easily recognizable and a favorite subject for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers. Our community is home to 14 nesting pairs, with three being located within Lighthouse Park. It is not unusual to see eagles fly directly over the Library on their way to John Lawson or Ambleside Park, where several favoured perch sites are located.
Kathleen McCormick, an amateur photographer and eagle monitor, has carefully photographed numerous eagles for this exhibition. She, along with other North Shore Eagle Network volunteers, watches for changes in nesting behaviour and human interference to ensure the safety and protection of our local eagle population.
