The West Vancouver Memorial Library officially opened to the public on November 11, 1950. In anticipation of the Library’s 75th anniversary, this exhibit examines three significant pieces of the Library’s permanent art collection found throughout the Main Hall and West Wing. These artworks are so embedded in the Library’s aesthetic that they are often overlooked as visitors pass through the space.
Images displayed salon-style along the gallery walls show snapshots scoured from the databases of both the West Vancouver Archives and digital.westvanlibrary.ca. These historic photos and newspaper clippings are accompanied by fascinating stories of how The Plumtrees, the Discus Thrower, and the Harmony memorial window became part of the Library.
