Everything’s Better…Under the Sea
Calling all students in grades K-6: We challenge you to read this summer for 15 minutes a day for 50 days or more! You can read whatever you want, wherever you want, and however you want! Books, comics, non-fiction, novels, audiobooks, ebooks, magazines—in any language!
The Kids Summer Reading Club is for kids who can do a bit of reading on their own with some help, and kids who can read totally on their own.
Students in grades 7+ can join the Teen Reading Club.
Pre-readers can join the Read-to-Me Club.
Each week starting Monday, July 6, Summer Reading Club members can visit the Library to check-in their reading, collect their weekly sticker, and enter the weekly prize draw.
Everyone who reaches the goal of reading for 50 days this summer will be awarded their very own reading medal in September!
This year’s Summer Reading Club Medal Ceremony will happen Friday, September 18. More details to come closer to that time!
There are three SRC trophies awarded to the schools with the highest percentage of students who register and complete the 50-day reading challenge. Since we count completion, that means we won’t know the trophy winners until early October.
The school’s rankings will be posted in the Youth Department throughout summer so you can check in on how your school is doing!
To keep things fair, we award three different trophies based on school size: 100 students or less, 100-300 students, and 300-650 students.
You can read whatever you want this summer, but here are some of our favourites!
Registration for Summer Reading Club programs opens June 1!
