Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)

LINC, which stands for Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada, is offering free online English Classes for Newcomers over the summer. The summer session starts Monday, July 14 and ends Thursday, August 21st.

The classes are for Literacy – Level 8. Assessments can be completed online. Online classes are 3 times a week with a fourth optional drop-in day for support with an instructor.

Eligible newcomers can attend these classes from anywhere in BC – they’re not limited to people living in the lower mainland. Permanent residents and refugees who have received approval for residency can register for these classes online: https://cbal.org/linconline

Get Cyber Safe is the Government of Canada’s national public awareness campaign about cyber security and the simple steps Canadians can take to protect themselves online.

Mauril

Mauril is a free online platform for learning Canada’s two official languages, English and French. Please note that this learning resource is not managed by West Van Library: CBC/Radio-Canada has created this resource using video clips from its news broadcasts, documentaries, tv shows, films and more. The all-Canadian content and the platform’s focus on conversational language skills may offer patrons a rich, multicultural learning experience. Mauril is available for download on Android and Apple phones, tablets and laptops. No citizenship status is required to use Mauril but only people living in Canada can use the App.
