In this presentation, we’ll dive into how drones are being used in recent North Shore Search and Rescue (NSR) rescues, highlighting effective techniques, successes, and challenges. A live demo will showcase the drones’ evolving capabilities, unique attachments, and real footage from actual rescues.
Grant Baldwin is a volunteer with North Shore Search and Rescue (NSR) and founded the drone operations group four years ago. He’s been flying drones since 2012, working on high-profile documentaries for Apple TV, BBC, CBC, and NBC. Grant’s connection to NSR began while directing and filming the Search and Rescue North Shore TV series for Knowledge Network. Over two seasons and nearly 200 rescue calls, Grant saw firsthand how drones with thermal sensors could make a real difference in locating missing persons quickly and safely.
Grant has since helped six NSR team members achieve advanced drone certification and remains an active participant in rescues whenever drones are requested.
