Renovations
We are planning a Mezzanine-level (non-fiction area) renovation to both seismically upgrade this floor and better serve the needs of our community. The Mezzanine will close later this summer until early 2025.
What to expect
You’ll see lots of changes around the Library this summer while we prepare to close and renovate the Mezzanine level (non-fiction area). Our goal is to avoid as much disruption as possible. We are strategically planning collections moves and prioritizing the availability of high-demand materials on the shelves while the Mezzanine is closed.
Here’s where to find these collections:
Fiction Wing | West Wing |

Or, ask at the Help Desk!
To access Main Floor collections during this time:
- Check our online catalogue or visit the Help Desk for the up-to-date location of items
- Place holds on items in long-term storage by logging into your account or visiting the Help Desk
- Anticipate longer wait times (~48 hours) for holds
FAQs
Why we’re renovating
This necessary seismic upgrade will extend the life of this floor while avoiding the costs of new construction. We will also reuse and repurpose existing shelving and furnishings throughout the renovation to save on costs and reduce our environmental impact.

A number of collections will be impacted during this project. We’ll update the service notice at the top of this page as things move.
To start, lower-use Fiction books will be moved to long-term storage. Some West Wing collections will then move to the Fiction area so that we can temporarily relocate popular Mezzanine non-fiction materials to the West Wing, which already houses some other non-fiction collections.
Mezzanine collections that cannot fit in the West Wing during the renovation will be moved to long-term storage. You will be able to borrow these items by placing holds. Please expect longer wait times (~48 hours) as we anticipate an increase in the number of holds being placed during this time.
The Mezzanine level will be cleared out and closed at the end of this summer. We anticipate that construction will be completed in mid-to-early 2025.
You will still be able to place holds on these items during the closure. Please expect longer wait times (~48 hours) as we anticipate an increase in the number of holds being placed during this time.
The study carrels will be relocated to the Peters Reading Room while the Mezzanine is closed. Other collaborative and solo study spaces are available in the Community Computing Centre on the Lower Level and in the East and West Wings on the Main Floor.
This project is funded through the multi-year capital renewal budget from the District of West Vancouver.
