West Vancouver Memorial Library 2012 Annual Report Released

West Vancouver, BC – West Vancouver Memorial Library is number one – over and over and over.

The West Vancouver Memorial Library (WVML) 2012 Annual Report, presented today to Council and the public, highlights the library's exceptional services and shows that the WVML is one of the busiest, per capita, in BC. This includes the highest per capita circulation, program attendance, number of reference questions and in-person visits, as well as the top per-hour circulation and in-person visits.

"WVML excelled across the board in 2012," said WVML Library Board Chair Kirsty Farquharson. "Based on provincial statistics of comparative libraries, WVML came out on top of just about every usage category. We are proud of our accomplishments from last year and we look forward to continuing the trend of making WVML the province's premiere public library."

Thanks to the District of West Vancouver, the library building received a mechanical system upgrade in 2012 and replaced windows on the north-facing wall and in the courtyard. With the support of the WVML Foundation, the library developed a well-designed and forward-looking space on the Lower Level.

"Sustaining and enhancing the library is of utmost importance due to both the economic climate and our impact on natural resources," said Councillor and Library Board Trustee Craig Cameron. "This year's improvements to the facility make the library more energy efficient and protect the infrastructure and contents of this vital public space for years to come."

WVML's digital experience expanded significantly in 2012. The Library launched digital.westvanlibrary.ca/, a historical photograph collection that catalogues West Vancouver's beginnings to the bustling and prosperous community it is today. The Youth Department offered a new mobile device "petting zoo," as well as a Kindle e-reader lending program. The Department embraced apps (interactive and animated mobile applications) by recommending a broad range of high-quality and age-appropriate educational and entertaining downloads. All devices and digital content were generously funded by the Friends of the West Vancouver Memorial Library.

The 2012 Annual Report can be viewed on the West Vancouver Memorial Library's website at westvanlibrary.ca. Copies are available at the service desks in the Library.
