2016 – 2020 Strategic Plan release: direction set for the next five years at West Vancouver Memorial Library

Wednesday, September 30, 2015, West Vancouver, B.C. – West Vancouver Memorial Library is excited to announce the launch of its 2016 – 2020 Strategic Plan. The plan builds on the Library’s strong foundation with an enduring Mission and Values, and charts an optimistic future through its Vision and Strategic Priorities of People, Place and Digital Platform.

“We are all learners in a complex and dynamic world where external and personal forces demand that we adapt to new ways of being, seeing and doing,” says District of West Vancouver Mayor Michael Smith. “Our Library has the fundamental assets, including rich information resources and a robust technological infrastructure, to inspire people’s personal growth. This plan affirms the Library’s importance in supporting the evolution of our community.”

The strategic planning process included in-depth research into the Library’s community value, an exploration of current trends in our changing environment, and developments in the transformation of public libraries in B.C. and beyond. “Our research brought forward new insights about the importance of connecting people to information, the world of imagination and each other in a society that is becoming increasingly diverse, mobile and knowledge-based,” says Library Board Chair Mary Jo Campbell.

Formulating the 2016 – 2020 Strategic Plan also provided an opportunity for many keenly interested stakeholders to provide input into the future of the Library, including elected officials, Library visitors, volunteers, staff, Board Trustees, Foundation Directors, Friends of the Library members, community partners, West Vancouver Schools Board Members and administrative staff, and West Vancouver District staff.

The Library’s 2016 – 2020 Strategic Plan will be presented at the October 5, 2015 West Vancouver Council meeting.  A video overview of the strategy may be viewed here, and the full plan is available at the Library or online.

The Library will also host a reception for the launch of the plan on Wednesday, October 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Welsh Hall. The event will include an opportunity to speak with members of the Strategic Planning Working Group, as well as a presentation on the key aspects of the plan. The media and members of the public are welcome to attend the reception.
