Kids with reading challenges can practise their oral reading skills by signing up to read with a certified Paws 4 Stories therapy dog. Research shows that reading to a dog is tremendously motivational for kids and also provides a calming, relaxed environment for children who may be feel hesitant or anxious about reading.
Sessions are 15 minutes. Kids must be school-aged, able to read some English on their own and comfortable reading with a dog and the dog’s adult handler.
Registration opens Tuesday, October 3 at 10 a.m. To register, please visit the Youth Department or phone 604.925.7408.
