Tales of Disaster and Rescue: Real and Imagined with Cathalynn Labonté-Smith and Frances Peck
Saturday, January 28 at 2 p.m.–3:30 p.m.
Free
There are few stories more compelling than those of disaster and survival. Join North Shore authors Cathalynn Labonté-Smith and Frances Peck as they discuss both real and imagined tales of disaster and rescue.
In Rescue Me: Behind the Scenes of Search and Rescue (Caitlin Press), Labonté-Smith goes behind the scenes of some of North America’s riskiest search and rescue operations to bring readers harrowing tales from those who survived natural disasters and misadventures, and those who risked their lives to rescue them. In The Broken Places, set largely in West Vancouver, Peck explores what happens to society and a group of wildly different yet interrelated characters when the fictional Great Vancouver Earthquake hits.
Books will be available for purchase at the event and both authors will be available for signings after the event.
Cathalynn Labonté-Smith has been a freelance journalist for over forty years. This is her third nonfiction book. She has also worked as a technical writer and editor, as well as an educator.
Frances Peck has worked with words for three decades as an editor, ghostwriter, and educator. The Broken Places (NeWest Press), which the Vancouver Sun hailed as an “intense and absorbing drama,” is her first novel.
