Learn all about the power of writing from New York Times best-selling author Kelly Yang.
Kelly Yang’s award winning middle grade series, Front Desk, follows 10-year-old Mia Tang, a Chinese American immigrant girl who manages the front desk of a motel while her parents clean the rooms. Front Desk was followed by Three Keys (2020), and Room to Dream which debuted this September! Kelly Yang is the author of Front Desk, which won the 2019 Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature and was chosen a Best Book of the Year by multiple publications. She is also the author of its sequels Three Keys and Room to Dream, both recipients of multiple starred reviews, and a new YA novel called Parachutes. Kelly’s family immigrated to the United States from China when she was a young girl. She grew up in California, in circumstances very similar to those of Mia Tang. She eventually left the motels and went to college at the age of 13, and is a graduate of UC Berkeley and Harvard Law School. She is the founder of The Kelly Yang Project, a leading writing and debating program for children in Asia and the United States. She lives in Los Angeles, California.
