St. Johns Ambulance Therapy dog sitting in a car

*The Library is cancelling all in-person events indefinitely. Please check out our events calendar for a full list of virtual programs*

Practise your reading skills by signing up for an appointment to read with Misty, a certified Paws 4 Stories therapy dog! Research shows that reading to a dog is tremendously motivational for kids, and provides a calming, relaxed environment for children who may feel hesitant or anxious about reading.

Paws 4 Stories runs Fridays from January 14 – February 4. Sessions are 20 minutes. Misty wants to meet as many kids as possible. Please only register for a maximum of two sessions during the four week series. Kids must be school-aged, able to read some English on their own, and comfortable reading with a dog and the dog’s adult handler.

Covid-19 Safety Measures

This indoor program will be limited to 1 participant per session.

For this in-person program:

  • Vaccine cards will be checked for those aged 12 and over, and patrons over 18 are required to show government-issued ID as well. If you need help accessing your vaccine card, please contact us.
  • Pre-registration is required
  • Masks are mandatory for everyone 5 and up
  • Capacity is limited

Stay home if you are feeling sick. Please use the hand sanitizer provided when you arrive. As the COVID-19 situation continues to change, this program may be cancelled. If you have a mask or vaccination exemption, please contact us for virtual program options.
