North Shore Jazz Series – Paul Pigat Trio & Big Lazy [YouTube Live]
Friday, June 25 at 7:30 p.m.–9 p.m.Free
Thanks to a generous bequest from the estate of Robert Leslie Welsh, WVML is known for its lively Friday Night Concert series. We’re so excited to continue sharing music with our patrons virtually—LIVE from your living room!
Two phenomenal guitar-led bands from opposite sides of the continent come together virtually for a sensational night of vintage pop and jazz-noir as part of the North Shore Jazz Series (Cap U) and the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival.
The Vancouver-based guitarist Paul Pigat, joined by drummer Jesse Cahill and bassist Jeremy Holmes, will present a 40-minute set within the library’s Main Hall that expresses their love of vintage jazz and bebop stylings. Next we will transport the audience to Brooklyn, New York, where Big Lazy will perform live from Barbès bar. Stephen Ulrich, guitarist and leader of Big Lazy, creates compositions that fall left of center, somewhere between sultry lounge-jazz and fractured surf-pop. The New Yorker calls the music of Big Lazy “stunningly beautiful.”
For the finale, Pigat and Ulrich, long-time friends that have never shared the same stage, will present a recorded jam session that is not to be missed. We can’t wait to see these two share their mutual passion for guitar-sparked musical nuggets both original and retro.
