First Thursdays Art Walk Talk
Thursday, May 6 at 6 p.m.–7 p.m.Free
You are invited to explore local galleries and public art spaces throughout Ambleside and Dundarave during the third annual First Thursdays Art Walk. Enhance your Art Walk involvement by joining us online for discussion and conversation between local artists.
Artists Yeonmi Kim and Jackie Wong, whose work will be on display in the Silk Purse Arts Centre and West Vancouver Art Museum respectively, are first up in our series of four virtual talks. Kim and Wong are invited to share insights into their work and answer questions about their artistic practices.
Yeonmi Kim is a multidisciplinary artist working in wood, painting, textiles, and mixed media. Her work in Sewstainability, at the Silk Purse Arts Centre, addresses the threats to our oceans from the climate crisis and plastics pollution. Kim transforms discarded plastic into 2D wall pieces of maps of locations showing the sever effects of climate change.
Jackie Wong is an artist and educator whose practice includes photography, painting, and ceramics. In The Spaces Between Us, at the West Vancouver Art Museum, you are invited to question the factual nature of photography and explore the ways in which our perceptions of scenes shape our engagement with the natural world. Visit to view Wong’s photographs of orbs, and clouds, resulting from disasters and transformed into photo-based watercolours.
Presented by the West Vancouver Community Arts Council and the West Vancouver Memorial Library.
What you’ll need: A computer with speakers (or headphones) or your smartphone/tablet.
