Fashions of the West Vancouver Pioneers with Ivan Sayers [VIRTUAL]

Join local fashion historian Ivan Sayers for a look at the fabulous fashions of the West Vancouver Pioneers, circa 1873 to 1912.
This fascinating piece of West Vancouver’s local history will include a look at antique garments as well as archival material from early West Vancouver residents.
Ivan Sayers was born in Cornwall, Ontario and moved to British Columbia at the age of two. He graduated in 1969 from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Classical Studies and in 1970 began his museum career as a volunteer at the Museum of Vancouver. He became the Curator of History at the museum from 1976 to 1990 and in 1991 he left to become a consultant and lecturer. For the last 50 years he has been producing lectures, exhibitions and fashion shows on historic clothing and social history for museums and organizations across Western Canada and the Western United States. Mr. Sayers has collected costumes since he was a teenager and now has one of the finest privately owned collections of period clothing in Canada with men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing and accessories dating from c.1690 to the present. He regularly lectures at several of the local universities and colleges, and has received awards from the Western Canadian Designers and Fashion Association, the Vancouver Historical Society and was given a distinguished service award by the British Columbia Museum Association in October 2010. In May of 2015, Ivan was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree by Kwantlen Polytechnic University. In September 2016, Ivan was honoured by the Museum of Vancouver with the distinction of Curator Emeritus.
