What are atmospheric rivers and how do we properly prepare for them? Join Corinne Taylor and Ocean Ambassadors Canada for an interactive discussion on atmospheric rivers that have become more common with our changing climate. They are typically thousands of kilometres long and hundreds of kilometres wide, and a single one can carry a greater flux of water than Earth’s largest river, the Amazon River. As experienced here in West Vancouver, they destroy roads and infrastructure, cause severe flooding, and can lead to significant landslides and other damage.
Refreshments will be served.
Corinne Taylor was born in Vancouver. In 1967, at age 10, her family moved North to the family ranch in the Cariboo. The ranch is 52 kilometres off Highway 97 and off the grid. Corinne lives in North Vancouver but still spends time up north. Living between the two extremes gives her an interesting perspective on how climate, nature, and progress differ between country and city life.
