Getting started with Adobe Digital Editions

If you are downloading library ebooks onto your computer, you will need a free piece of software called Adobe Digital Editions. This will allow you to download and read books on your computer.

Note: to read ebooks on your iPad, tablet, or smartphone using the Overdrive or OneClickdigital apps, you only need to create an Adobe login.

Update: We recommend only using Adobe Digital Editions Version 3.0

1. Create an Adobe ID

  • Go to
  • Click on "Get an Adobe ID."
  • Fill in your email address, password, name, and date of birth
  • Click "Continue."

3. Authorize Adobe Digital Editions

  • Open Adobe Digital Editions.

  • Click on the Help Menu. Choose "Authorize Computer" and then click "Continue."
  • Fill in your Adobe username and password, and then click on "Authorize."

4. Authorize Your E-Reader

  • Connect your device to your computer with the appropriate cord.
  • Open Adobe Digital Editions.
  • Click on the small gear icon next to the "Devices" section of the sidebar.

  • Choose "Authorize Device."

  • Click on "Authorize" in the window that pops up.

Note: The above steps only need to be done when initially setting up your computer and device.
